Achievements
In the early 90’s, the immigration trend changed and more professionals started landing in Canada. A large percentage of those professional immigrants were related to different Engineering fields. They were fully qualified, holding degrees in different engineering disciplines but with no contacts to get into the professional workforce. It was realized that a lobby group is required for Punjabi engineers to develop links and know people in their profession.
In 1994, a few Indian engineers got together some of their friends from Guru Nanak Engineering College in Punjab and some recent UBC graduates to discuss the details on this matter. Collectively, they decided to make a society working on a volunteer basis to help immigrated engineers and technologists and to promote the engineering profession in local youth. They named it “Society of Punjabi Engineers and technologists of British Columbia” (SPEATBC). They established a constitution for society members and framed out its goals and objectives.
