Society of Punjabi Engineers and Technologists of BC’s Website
In the early 90’s, immigration trend changed and more professionals started landing in Canada. A large percentage of those professional immigrants were related to different Engineering fields. They were fully qualified, holding degrees in different engineering disciplines but with no contacts to get into the professional work force. It was realized that a lobby group is required for Punjabi engineers to develop links and know people in their profession.
In September 1994, society organized its first inaugural meeting at Kohi-noor restaurant in Surrey. An executive committee was formed and with encouragement of fellow members, on March 1, 1995, the executives filed an application with Registrar of companies of Province of British Columbia. On May 16, 1995, SPEATBC was incorporated under the Societies act of British Columbia.
Our Goals
SPEATBC (The Society of Punjabi Engineers And Technologists of British Columbia) is a non-profit organization, which has successfully brought together Engineers and Technologists from different disciplines from both Canada and the Indian subcontinent. SPEATBC was incorporated under the Societies Act of British Columbia on May 16, 1995. SPEATBC represents all disciplines including Electrical, Computer, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Metallurgical Engineers and all Applied Science Technologists and Technicians. SPEATBC provides free services to its growing number of members, which has reached over 500 members this year.
The Society hopes to promote the engineering profession in the Punjabi community and to foster a spirit of fellowship amongst its members. For most of us, it is a great way to get to know other engineers and gain knowledge from others. For new graduates and new immigrants it is especially a great way to network and create contacts.

It was realized that a lobby group is required for Punjabi engineers to develop links and know people in their profession.
In 1994, a few Indian engineers got together some of their friends from Guru Nanak Engineering College in Punjab and some recent UBC graduates to discuss the details on this matter. Collectively, they decided to make a society working on volunteer basis to help immigrated engineers and technologist and to promote engineering profession in local youth. They named it “Society of Punjabi Engineers and technologists of British Columbia” (SPEATBC). They established a constitution for society members and framed out its goals and objectives.
